Drunken Maria Records story

Drunken Maria started in the beginning of '98 when 2 guys decided to start a vinyl label. After a heavy drinking session they came up with the name Drunken Maria named after a song by a legendary 60's band called the Monks (check out their album "Black Monk Time"). Their policy was and still is: vinyl first 'cause vinyl rules (first pressings always numbered and limited) and after that maybe a CD of the recording.

Their first release was a 10" by 7 ZUMA 7 in a beautiful glitter-sleeve (350 pieces) and that one immediately hit the bulls-eye, the record sold out in 1 week.
After this success they also released a mini-CD of this record and sold almost 5000 copies (10 inch/cd) so far.

They got labelled as a "stoner-label" when they released the vinyl-version of "Stoned Revolution" which featured the likes of: KYUSS, HEADS, NEBULA, ORANGE GOBLIN, to name a few. (1000 copies only/sold out)

Stoner-label? The next release was a 10" by 'the Motörhead´s of the lowlands': PETER PAN. This record also did the job, they are now one of the hottest bands in Holland.

Their 10" "Homesteel" was followed by the 70's spacerock band WE from Norway, they've supported Masters Of Reality on their last European tour and played all big festivals in Scandinavia this year. Their next record is gonna be produced by legendary producer Chriss Goss (Masters Of Reality)

Both PETER PAN & WE are vinyl only releases and will not be released on CD.

In the meantime 7 ZUMA 7 finished their long awaited album "Deep Inside..." and they licensed this album from SUBURBAN Records and released it on beautiful coloured vinyl.
Eindhoven also has a big influence on Drunken Maria. It has a lot of great bands (7 ZUMA 7, PETER PAN, CANDYBAR PLANET, LOVESTEAKS, 35007 etc).

During a festival in the Czech Republic, where a lot of Eindhoven based bands played, the idea of a sampler/tour came along called EINDHOVEN ROCKCITY! The sampler was released in a great screen-print sleeve ltd to 1000 pieces (vinyl only of course). The tour was a great success with an average of 500 people attending the show.

As said before Eindhoven has a big influence on Drunken Maria, that's where they hooked up with a reggae/ska band called: BEEF! They released a 10" called "Babylon by BEEF!" on SLEEPY MARIA the sister of ... (Drunken Maria is for the guitar oriented bands and SLEEPY MARIA for the "other" good music)
BEEF! is now climbing up the ladder "rocksteadily", in the Netherlands.

After this "sleepy maria" record, the next Eindhoven based band was on.
CANDYBAR PLANET their same titled record was released on 10inch/cd. It was packed in one off the best covers they did so far. This band is already known in the underground, they've released a CD on their own called "32 bitch" which sold about 1000 copies.
The lastest release on Drunken maria is the Nymegen (Holland) based band.

CELESTIAL SEASON, these guys have been around for a little while already, and on this 10inch/cd they've found the perfect mixture between so-called stoner and heavy rock. The perfect follow up to their last year's released "lunchbox dialogues"
and so the story continues...............
